Guns don’t kill people…..

Killer!

Megadrives do!

With the recent launch of Rockstars fourth instalment of the infamous ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series, opinions across the spectrum are being voiced on its ethics toward society.

There was already been a case brought forward that

“What has happened in Alabama is that four companies participated in the training of Devin … to kill three men,”

No they fucking didn’t… The fact that this douche bag spent 12 hours a day locked in his bedroom banging prostitutes on the streets of Vice or Liberty City, hammering the buttons to activate the ‘more ammo’ cheat and slowly turning himself into a sociopath.. That might have contributed.

Back in 2003 Devon Thompson shot and killed 2 police officers and a dispatcher after being picked up driving a stolen car. After being taken to the station he grabbed one of the officer’s guns and proceeded to shoot and kill the three.

Now my thoughts go out to the victims, the victim’s families and also the family of Devon Thompson… but…. And I mean but… Did the game really make him do it or was it just that he’s a fucking scum bag? I, along with a vast majority of the under, say, 40’s have also played at least one version of the game and know the story lines in which you make drug deals, go on killing sprees, plant bombs, etc.. I also know of the missions where you drive round taking citizens to destinations of their choice for a small fee. Although whilst in the ‘taxi’ mission mode I wasn’t a qualified, registered cabbie, but I was honest and hard working, trying to make that honest buck.. After hours of playing this game, I didn’t have the urge to go be a cabbie, did you?

This takes me onto the other games on the market and also how fucking ridiculous it is take make these claims that computer games drive the gaming society to murder. Surely, if games drive us to commit crime then the same ‘mind fuck’ that the games give us should also make us do good. It stands to reason.  Did anyone ever get arrested for delivering bulky cargo or long-hauling goods across states after playing a 7 hour stretch on ’18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker?

You all must have heard of that guy who was convicted in killing 300 rabbits and he tried to claim that he and a few friends downed some beers and played Rayman Raving Rabbids. Have a fucking word!

So, using my water tight theory that the game you play most must be a crucial stepping stone toward your future and the impact you have on others. Thus indicating that:

I’m either gonna go and win the superbowl playing starting quarterback for the Greenbay Packers, or I’m gonna drive round the streets throwing shells and mushrooms at other motorists while my wife fires rubber plungers at Rayman’s fucking rabbids!!!

Remember; be careful with your next choice of video game!

  1. LOL

Very well said.. and so true… I love Mario KArt.. doesn’t mean i am going to go out driving while attacking people with Mushrooms…..

Keep writing the blogs.. i love reading them!!
Your wife must be sooo lucky… and patient!! :)

  2. For someone to go out and decide to kill people is a matter of their own not one which that have been taught by a game. I can sit and play grand theft auto all day as i sometimes do, but i have no inclination to go out and kill anybody. These people are simply looking for someone to shift the blame to.
If these games are to trully turn harmless people into killers, we would all be doing it. We would be a world of sonic hedgehogs, marios and pro evolution soccer stars. Its ridiculous to blame such horrific killings on a game.
